Sea Containers London Review: Stunning Views, Even Better Food

The view across to St Paul's Cathedral from Sea Containers London

If you find yourself working near the South Bank and wondering where to eat, let me save you the decision fatigue: go to Sea Containers London. We stumbled here while nearby with modest expectations and absolutely zero regrets.

Where is Sea Containers London?

Sea Containers sits inside the Mondrian London hotel on the South Bank of the Thames. The real jaw-dropper, though? Step inside and you're greeted with sweeping views straight across to St Paul's Cathedral. Even if the food had been average, the setting alone would've made it worthwhile.

What we ate

Shrimp cocktail

A solid, well-executed classic to get things going. Fresh, clean, and a nice nod to the retro-American brasserie vibes the restaurant leans into.

Brick chicken

This was the standout of the meal. If you visit Sea Containers and don't order the brick chicken, I'm not sure what to tell you. The skin was perfectly crisped while the meat underneath stayed juicy and tender. It's the kind of dish that makes you stop mid-conversation. Genuinely brilliant.

Chargrilled tenderstem broccoli with burrata

Honestly, this surprised us the most. Chargrilled broccoli sounds humble on paper; this was anything but. The char added a gorgeous bitterness that played perfectly against the soft, milky burrata. It's a combination that sounds simple but takes real kitchen confidence to deliver well.

Hispi cabbage

Another strong showing from the kitchen. Hispi is having a moment on London menus right now and Sea Containers earns its place in that conversation. Nicely charred, full of flavour — a side dish that pulls its weight.

Fries

Look, sometimes fries are just fries. These were not just fries. Crispy, golden, and ridiculously moreish — the kind you keep reaching for even when you're already full. The sort of chips that remind you why simplicity, done well, always wins.

The drinks

The cocktail list is worth your attention. This is a hotel bar that takes its drinks seriously. Well-crafted and well-presented. Don't just order water and get on with it — leave room for at least one round.

The service

Warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being over the top. The kind of service that makes you feel looked after rather than managed. Given the setting — a busy hotel restaurant near one of London's most iconic landmarks — the team kept things moving and the atmosphere relaxed. Impressive.

Is Sea Containers London worth the price?

Let's be straight: Sea Containers is not cheap. It sits comfortably in the "London treat" category rather than the casual Tuesday lunch bracket. But for a work trip splurge, a client lunch, or simply an excuse to eat very well with a sensational view? Every penny felt justified.

The verdict

The brick chicken and chargrilled broccoli with burrata alone are worth the journey. Add in those St Paul's views, seriously good chips, great cocktails, and genuinely lovely service, and you've got a restaurant that delivers on every level.

Would we go back? Already planning it.
